I used their automatic installer build; it puts stuff in /opt, so it's
easy enough to wipe away if needed.

Try making an xorg.conf file with "X -configure" -- that tells X to
probe the hardware and generate a config file, which is places
at /root/xorg.conf.new
Move that config to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and see how it works :)
